From the Division of Diversity and Inclusion:
The Division of Diversity and Inclusion has been actively contributing to institutional efforts to advance diversity, equity, inclusion, and antiracism at the college during Fall semester. Highlights include:

Launched the Queer Ally Coalition workshop series.

Together with Human Resources, facilitated training for Equity in the Hiring Process.

Together with Academic Affairs, organized a reception for Whitman Faculty of Color.
-
Coordinated International Student Orientation.
-
Organized events for Hispanic Heritage Month.
-
Hosted Third Space events on Disability Justice and Hip Hop Scholarship.

Opened the new All Faiths Room in Reid Campus Center.

Last Call for Pete & Hedda Reid Award Nominations
|
Each year, the Pete & Hedda Reid Award recognizes one Whitman faculty or staff member for their exceptional volunteer work within the community. Candidates must have worked at Whitman for at least three years. The online nomination form closes today at 5 p.m. The award recipient will be honored during a Walla Walla Chamber of Commerce Awards Ceremony and will receive $1,000. View past recipients.

Movie Screening Tonight: "Legally Blonde"
|
The Whitman Events Board presents a screening of "Legally Blonde" at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 2 in Olin Auditorium. Students, faculty and staff are all invited to this free screening of a Hollywood classic.

"Timber Culture" Tomorrow
|
The History department presents "Timber Culture: Seeking an Inclusive American Narrative" at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 3 in Olin Auditorium. The speaker, Gwendolyn Trice, is an African American woman and descendant of Black loggers, and the founder and executive director of the Maxville Heritage Interpretive Center in Joseph, Oregon, located on the historical townsite of Maxville, a segregated logging community.

"Coyote Made the Rivers" Tomorrow
|
The English department presents "Coyote Made the Rivers: Indigenous Ecology and the Sacred Geography of Song" at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 3 in the Kimball Theatre in Hunter Conservatory. With a blend of music, visual imagery, storytelling and research, this event will feature Chad S. Hamill/čnaq’ymi’, a scholar whose work focuses on song traditions of the Interior Northwest, including those carried by his Spokane ancestors.

Please continue to follow all our campus COVID-19 protocols to help prevent transmission. If you have any symptoms that may be COVID-19 or know that you may have been exposed to coronavirus, please be tested. Additional masks and rapid test kits are available in the front entryway at the Welty Student Health Center during normal operating hours.
