Earlier this week, the National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity (NCFDD) hosted a guest webinar featuring law professor Carmen G. Gonzalez. The webinar, entitled Presumed Incompetent II: Lessons from the Struggles and Victories of Women of Color in Academia, was based on Professor Gonzalez’ scholarship exploring “the obstacles that women of color encounter on the road to tenure, promotion and academic leadership as well as the strategies that women of color have deployed to succeed” in academia.
In fall of 2021, Whitman College became an institutional member of the NCFDD. As a result, Whitman faculty have access to the Gonzalez webinar and the entire NCFDD webinar library. Email diversity@whitman.edu for instructions on how to set up an account that enables access to these resources.
About the NCFDD
The NCFDD is a nationally-recognized, independent professional development, training and mentoring community for faculty, postdocs, and graduate students that offers a compendium of resources and tools to support the personal and professional success of scholars from more than 450 member colleges and universities. Its webinar series included content focused on STEM grant funding strategies, preparing tenure and promotion materials, challenging race and gender bias in student evaluations, incivility in academic spaces and inclusive online teaching practices. NCFDD also provides members with writing challenges and discussion forums that can help them navigate career progression and contribute to technical skill development.
