Four Whitman College students and recent graduates have been accepted into the Fulbright U.S. Student Program. Fulbright is the largest U.S. exchange program, offering students and young professionals opportunities to teach and conduct research in more than 140 countries, with about 1,900 grants awarded annually.
This year's Whitman recipients are:
- Lindsey Merritt '22 (anthropology and German studies double major) was awarded a Fulbright English Teaching Assistants to Germany
- Rhône Grajcar ’21 (History—Empires & Colonialism and South Asian and Middle Eastern studies double major) was awarded a Fulbright Open Study/Research Award to India
- Caroline "Cello" Lockwood '19 (economics–environmental studies major) was awarded a Fulbright Open Study/Research Award to Italy
- Sophomore Tuere Cunningham (major undeclared) was selected to participate in the Fulbright UK Summer Institutes

Adam Rosenberg '22 (philosophy and German studies double major) received an English Teaching Assistants award from the Austria Teaching Assistants Program. Through this program college and university graduates teach English in secondary schools, enhancing the instruction of English as native speakers, providing first-hand information about the "American way of life" and acting as representatives of the United States.
