Winter Break Security Reminders
|
Here are a few helpful safety tips to minimize your risks of becoming a victim of a crime, especially as we leave and return from the break between semesters.
On Campus:
- Always lock the door when you leave your room or office.
- Avoid "piggybacking" and do not let anyone in your building you do not know.
- If you leave campus for the break, store your bike in an indoor residence hall bike rack.
- When out at night, walk with a friend in well-lit, well-populated areas or call campus security for an escort.
- Be mindful of the nearest location of the blue light phones.
- If you have an emergency, call 911 immediately and campus security as soon as possible.
Off Campus:
- Never leave valuables visible in your car.
- Park as close as you can to your destination.
- Be aware of your surroundings when approaching or leaving your vehicle.
- If you must use an ATM, choose a location in a well-lit area and only pull out the necessary cash.
- Avoid leaving delivered packages on your porch.
- If you see something, say something, and contact the local police.
Campus security will be available 24/7 during the holiday break. If you need assistance, call the on-duty officer at 509-527-5777. In an emergency, call 911.
