Today Is the Whitman Undergraduate Conference

Today is the 26th annual Whitman Undergraduate Conference, a celebration of the scholarship, critical thinking, self-driven exploration and creativity of Whitman students.

Schedule:

  • 9–10:15 a.m. - Panel sessions in various locations.
  • 10:30–11 a.m. - Chamber music performance in the Hall of Music foyer.
  • 11–11:45 a.m. - Poster presentations in the Cordiner Hall foyer.
  • Noon–1 p.m. - Jazz music performance in Reid Campus Center Café.
  • 1:15–2:30 p.m. - Panel sessions in various locations.

Tech Tip

Zoom Phones Transition in Progress

Technology Services is working on converting campus to use Zoom Phones as our primary voice technology. Until this transition is complete, you may receive a “this call cannot be completed as dialed” message when dialing an on-campus 4-digit extension. If this happens, you will need to dial the full 10-digit number, preceded by the number 7 (as if you were dialing an off-campus number).

Dialogue & Dignity Series Continues This Week

The Dialogue & Dignity Series continues with a campus visit by co-presenters David Myers, Chair in Jewish History at UCLA, and Hussein Ibish, Senior Resident Scholar at the Arab Gulf States Institute. The two speakers will deliver a public talk titled “How Did We Get There? A Multi-Lens Perspective on the History of Israel-Palestine” on Wednesday, April 10 at 7 p.m. in Olin Auditorium. “Forest Politics” Talk Tomorrow

Nancy Santi, Indigenous leader and the first elected female kuraka (president) of the Kichwa Pueblo of Kawsak Sacha in the Ecuadorian Amazon, will deliver a talk titled “Forest Politics” on Wednesday, April 10 at 2:30 p.m. in Maxey Hall, room 207. Santi will speak about fighting against massive expansion of oil projects in Indigenous territories, such as the XI Oil Round in Ecuador. (Flyer attached.)

 

Bilingual Poet Talk Tomorrow

The Hispanic Studies Department will host a bilingual talk on Wednesday, April 10 at 4:30 p.m. in Olin 129. Jennifer Marline Rodríguez, a poet and academic at the Instituto Superior de Formación Docente Salomé Ureña in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, will deliver a bilingual (Spanish and English) talk titled “Prácticas poéticas: spoken word, archives, and reading other-wise.” (Flyer attached.)

 

Housing Hunt Hoopla Tomorrow

A Housing Hunt Hoopla event will be held on Wednesday, April 10 from 7–9 p.m. in the Reid Campus Center basement. This event is for people looking for off campus housing options or searching for roommates. (Flyer attached.)

 

International Night on Sunday

Whitman Events Board and International Student & Scholar Services will co-sponsor an International Night event on Sunday, April 14 from 5–7 p.m. in the Reid Campus Center Young Ballroom. The program will include acts ranging from musical performances to international dances to a Varsity International Athlete panel, plus international food, henna, a photo booth and more. At a recent meeting of the Whitman College Advisory Council for CTUIR Collaboration (WCACCC), Alzada Tipton, Provost and Dean of the Faculty, was presented with a Pendleton blanket and thanked for her leadership contributions, including help in establishing the first Memorandum of Agreement with the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation (CTUIR).
