Life After Whitman: Artisanal Mezcal
|
The following is an excerpt from "Meant to be Shared" a story by Pam Moore featured in the Fall issue of Whitman Magazine:
“I always knew I wanted to start a business,” says Rosalinda Mendoza ’06. Early on in her journey to entrepreneurship, she chose to study economics at Whitman College—with that future business dream in mind. What she didn’t know at the time was the company she’d eventually launch would tie her deeply to her family’s cultural heritage—and require flexibility and fortitude.
In late 2019, Mendoza (pictured above, right) left a stable tech job and gave her full attention to Mocel Mezcal, a small-batch, artisanal mezcal brand she co-founded with her sister Elizabeth (pictured above, left). But it wasn’t long before the world—and its supply chains—turned upside down.

Tuesday Tech Tip: Protecting Your Whitman Account
|
Securing your online accounts is one of the most important things you can do to protect your identity, both in your personal life and in your Whitman life.
Whitman has partnered with Duo Security to enable all Whitman community members to better protect their accounts. Enrolling in Duo adds a multi-factor authentication (MFA) verification when you login to MyWhitman. Many of you probably already see something similar when accessing your banking or medical information online. With Duo, you simply need to tap yes/no when logging in vs. typing in a 4- or 6-digit code sent via text message.
All Whitman account holders are strongly encouraged to add this protection to your account (sign up here).
This added protection makes it much more difficult to compromise your account, even if bad actors get your password. For more information, read this FAQ or contact the Information Security Office. Safe computing!

American Workplace Culture Workshop Today
|
The CCEC will host an American workplace culture workshop, today at 4 p.m. in Reid 240. Anyone can benefit from this workshop, since the exploration of culture leads to better understanding. This workshop is not training aimed at assimilation. Instead it identifies cultural practices one might see in an American workplace, and looks at ways of navigating a workplace in another culture (being patient with oneself, being open to conversations and communicating, etc.). Register on Handshake. Questions? Email ccec_info@whitman.edu.
