A Legacy for Future Generations

Photo: President Murray gives opening remarks at the 2022 Commencement ceremony.

As President Murray retires after seven years as Whitman’s president, her legacy will endure for generations thanks to a new scholarship to support access and affordability.

The Kathleen M. Murray Endowed Scholarship is made possible through more than $1 million in gifts and builds on the college’s progress toward making a  Whitman education attainable for all students. Murray herself was a first-generation college student, and this scholarship in her honor will support need-based aid with a preference for first-generation students.

Since Murray took office in 2015, she helped inspire more than $120 million in gifts and commitments to Whitman, much of which went toward scholarships and financial aid.
