Summer Campus Improvement Projects

Two major Whitman campus improvement projects are currently resulting in noise, dust and construction fencing. Roads, sidewalks and crosswalks may also be temporarily closed.
The first project is the last phase of replacing dated steam condensate lines for Whitman’s heating loop that provides heat for 15 buildings on campus.
The second project will redo the Reid Campus Center steps and entry deck to deal with deteriorating brick finishes and reduce challenges for snow and ice removal (see attached plan).

Noah Leavitt Speaks to Washington Leadership Institute
|
Noah Leavitt, Director of the Career and Community Engagement Center and Whitman’s Pre-law Advisor, recently spoke to members of the Washington Leadership Institute (WLI)—a leadership development program with a mission to “recruit, train and develop traditionally underrepresented attorneys for future leadership positions in the Washington State Bar Association (WSBA) and legal community.” WLI is a collaboration between the WSBA and the University of Washington School of Law. Leavitt reflected on how the skills he developed in law school and as a lawyer apply to his work at Whitman College and in the Walla Walla region. One of the WLI cohort members is local attorney Michele Morales ’07 who has been a supervisor and mentor for many Whitman students interested in becoming a lawyer.

Reminder: Fire Department Training on Campus

Please note that the Walla Walla Fire Department will utilize 22 Boyer Avenue, a campus-owned house, for training exercises on Thursday, May 25, and Friday, May 26.

Outdoor Program Rental Shop Summer Info
|
The Outdoor Program Rental Shop is open for the summer on a reduced schedule. All kinds of camping, backpacking and hiking gear are available, as well as mountain bikes, rafts, paddleboards and kayaks. During the summer, the Rental Shop is open Monday–Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2–4 p.m. For more information, pictures and rental rates, visit the Rental Shop webpage.

Fire Alarm Testing Next Week
|
Next week, on Tuesday and Wednesday, there will be planned testing of the fire suppression alarm systems in many campus building. Alarms may sound multiple times during testing. A more detailed schedule will be published in Whitman Today on Tuesday (Monday is a campus holiday).
