“The World Needs Whitties” Panel Friday

As part of the campaign launch celebration this weekend, President Sarah Bolton will moderate a panel of Whitman alumni on Friday, Oct. 13 at 2 p.m. in Chism Recital Hall. 

“The World Needs Whitties” panelists:

  • Cecilia Kang ’94 (English Language and Literature), New York Times reporter & best-selling author.
  • Tom Lapham ’99 (Asian Studies), CEO of CHEQ, founder of renewable energy ventures.
  • Dottie Metcalf-Lindenburger ’97 (Geology), astronaut, educator and geologist.
  • Drew Shoals ’05 (African-American Studies), Corporate Counsel at Amazon Music, former drummer of Train.
  • Jonathan Sposato ’89 (Political Science), serial tech entrepreneur, Founder of JoySauce, Chairman of GeekWire, & owner of Seattle Magazine.

You may notice some extra activity on campus this week in preparation for the event as a tent goes up on Ankeny and signs go up around campus. We hope you’ll join us for the exciting announcement on Friday.

The Community Celebration takes place on Friday, Oct. 13 from 3:30–5 p.m. on Ankeny Field. The entire Whitman community is invited. Admission is free and food will be provided!

Tech Tip: Computer Repairs

Whitman-owned computers have extended warranties on them. Please contact Whitman College Technology Services (WCTS) immediately if your Whitman-issued work computer is in need of repair so that we can assist you with getting back up and running in a timely manner.

Queer Open Mic Night Tomorrow

In celebration of National Coming Out Day, LGBTQIA+ Student Services is hosting Open Mic Night on Wednesday, Oct. 11 from 4–6 p.m. in the Reid Campus Center basement. Snacks will be provided. Students interested in performing should sign up in advance. (See attached flyer.)

 

Thanksgiving Break Shuttles

Thanksgiving Break shuttle tickets are now on sale in the Reid Campus Center Office (room 202). Shuttles are available to and from Seattle and Portland, leaving Friday, Nov. 17 and returning Sunday, Nov. 26. Additional shuttle service to Seattle is available on Sunday, Nov. 19, for students staying for the powwow. The cost for a round trip ticket is $130.

 

Oral History Webinar Recording Available

A recent webinar presented by the Northwest 5 Consortium (NW5C) for Community Engaged Learning is now available to watch. “Oral History as Public History - Building Reciprocal Relationships” is moderated by Professor of French and Francophone Studies Sarah Hurlburt, and Assistant Professor of History Camilo Lund-Montaño is one of three featured presenters.
