Taste of Africa 2023

An abstract poster design utilizing text and design elements, with the shape of the continent of Africa in the center.

The Whitman African Student Association (WASA) will host its annual Taste of Africa event starting at 6 p.m. on Saturday, April 8 in the Reid Ballroom.

The theme of this year’s event is Beyond Borders, which speaks to connecting the various communities on campus to Africa, as well as to making connections beyond our “virtual” borders.

The entire Whitman community is invited to immerse themselves in the vibrant cultures of the African continent, experiencing the stunning diversity of Africa through delicious cuisine, upbeat music, electrifying runway shows and spectacular live performances.

Watch Whitman Today each day this week for some fun facts about Africa, starting with this one:

Massawa, Eritrea is known as the “Pearl of the Red Sea” thanks to its picturesque location by the Red Sea and the range of Ottoman, Egyptian and Italian-era architecture.
