A Reading and Conversation with Poet & Writer Camille Dungy
|
Please join us for "A Reading and Conversation with Poet & Writer Camille Dungy" on Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 7 p.m. in Olin Auditorium (and live-streamed). This is the first event in this year's Visiting Writers Series and will also speak to this year's Academic Theme: Climate Justice, Climate Action.
Camille Dungy is the 2022-2023 Edward J. Arnold Visiting Professor in Environmental Humanities, the author of "Guidebook to Relative Strangers: Journeys into Race, Motherhood, and History," a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award, and author of four collections of poetry, including "Trophic Cascade," winner of the Colorado Book Award. Her work has also appeared in more than 40 anthologies, plus dozens of other venues, including The New Yorker, Poetry, Literary Hub, and Poets.org.
Funding for this event is provided by the Edward J. Arnold Visiting Professorship.

NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program Reviewer Panel

Learn what it’s like to think like a reviewer in the National Science Foundation’s Graduate Research Fellowship Program workshop, today at 4 p.m. in the Hall of Science, Room 159. A panel of faculty members who have previously served as reviewers for the NSF GRFP will be present to answer all of your questions about what goes on during the application review process. Reid Campus Center and the Student Activities Office will present "Brew Night @ Reid" on Thursday, Sept. 22 from 4-7 p.m. This event will be open to 21+ Whitman students, faculty and staff. Come learn about Five Dollar Ranch Brewery, enjoy some snacks, play trivia, and socialize with your campus colleagues. Non-alcoholic beverages will also be available. Be sure to bring both your government-issued photo ID and your Whitman ID (no outside guests, please).

Dr. Nicole Bates '07 serves as an attending psychiatrist at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center and clinical assistant professor of psychiatry at the University of Washington. Her clinical and research interests include psycho-oncology, psychiatry in palliative settings, psychotherapy, collaborative care, impacts of pain and opioids in cancer, provider wellbeing, and resident clinical education. This virtual Health Speaker Series event will take place on Thursday, Sept. 22 at 7 p.m.
