Whitman Undergraduate Conference Next Week!

The 25th annual Whitman Undergraduate Conference will be held in person next week with panel sessions in various venues across campus, a poster session in the Cordiner Hall lobby and interludes of live music performances. The annual research conference is a showcase for the scholarship, critical thinking, self-driven exploration and creativity of Whitman students.

Listserv Email Delivery Update
|
Due to changes in how Google processes the legacy listservs on campus, the Digest Mode functionality (where messages are collected and sent in groups) is no longer supported and these listservs are now reconfigured to Normal Mode (each message is delivered immediately). Listservs affected include: Students, Forsale, Announcements and Community. Listservs that do not have a Digest mode option, such as Faculty, Staff and Student Class Years, are not affected.
As a reminder, if you would like to subscribe or unsubscribe to optional listservs, you can do so by logging in to lists.whitman.edu and clicking on the “Mailing List Settings” link.

Reminder for Seniors: Commencement Regalia
|
Seniors, this week is the final week to order caps, gowns and tassels online, which will be available to pick up at the Whitman Bookstore the week of May 8–12. A limited supply of recycled caps and gowns are available (first-come, first served) this week at Whitman College Technology Services daily between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Tassels may also be purchased separately at the bookstore. Don’t delay!

Tickets on Sale for The Climate Change Project
|
The Theater and Dance department will present three performances of “The Climate Project” April 6–8 at Harper Joy Theatre. This work of devised theater, based on the 2022–2023 Academic Theme of “Climate Justice, Climate Action,” is created in its entirety by Whitman students under the guidance of guest director Annelise Lawson. Tickets, including free tickets for Whitman students, are available online.

Sorority Raising Money for Child Advocates
|
Kappa Alpha Theta will host a carnival-style fundraising event from Noon–3 p.m. on Saturday, April 8 on the Cordiner Hall side lawn. “Carnival for Child Advocates” is open to all and will include carnival games, prizes and snacks! Make a donation or buy activity tickets online. All proceeds benefit Walla Walla Child Advocates, a local organization that provides support for children within the court system who have experienced abuse or neglect.

Taste of Africa: Fun Fact #2
|
Zambia is home to Victoria Falls (Mosi-oa-Tunya), listed by UNESCO as the world’s largest curtain of water. The falls span the entire breadth of the Zambezi River at more than 1,700 meters wide and drops up to 108 meters. Reminder: Taste of Africa is this Saturday, April 8 starting at 6 p.m.

Save the Date: Friendship Family Gathering
|
The International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) office will host a Friendship Family gathering from 5:30–7 p.m. on Thursday, April 13 on the Reid Campus Center side lawn. These periodic events are an opportunity for existing Friendship Families and their assigned students to connect. The population of international students continues to grow and anyone interested in joining the Friendship Family program is invited to attend this event to learn from other families and students about their experiences and expectations with the program.
