Whitman Tennis Duo Wins Title
|
The Whitman College women's tennis duo Angel Le '23 and Arianna Castellanos '25 claimed their second straight doubles title in the ITA Fall Northwest Regional Championships on Monday. They will advance to the ITA Cup, held October 11-15 in Rome, Georgia.

Former Blue to Play for Argentina at World Baseball Classic Qualifiers
|
Former Whitman College baseball pitcher Eric Ma '20 will make his international debut for the Argentina national team at the World Baseball Classic Qualifiers Tournament (Sept. 30-Oct. 5). Two teams from the tournament will advance to the spring World Baseball Classic.

Jackson Reviews Book by Retired Supreme Court Justice
|
Associate Professor of Politics Jack Jackson has published a review of Justice Stephen Breyer's most recent book, "The Authority of the Court and the Peril of Politics" (Harvard Press, 2021), in the academic journal "Law, Culture, and the Humanities." Professor Jackson criticizes Justice Breyer for clinging to apolitical idealizations of the Supreme Court while failing to reckon with the reactionary turn of the Court in recent years.

Reunion Building Closures
|
Many buildings and spaces on campus will be hosting reunion events this week and some of those events will be closed to the public (reunion schedule). Of particular note, Reid Campus Center will be fully-closed to anyone not involved with the All-Class Reunion Party event on Friday, Sept. 30. from 5-11 p.m. We appreciate your flexibility as we return to on-campus reunion events. Edwards Classroom Reception Saturday
|
A reception will be held to officially open the Edwards Classroom on the ground level of Penrose Library, Saturday, Oct. 1 at 2 p.m. The classroom is named in memory of Professor of History G. Thomas Edwards and Nannette W. Edwards. Attendees are invited to hear remarks from the Edwards family and other guests, and to view this new space for teaching and learning. Light refreshments provided. RSVP to Lauren Riker.

Glean Team Seeks Volunteers
|
Love farms and food? Want to help less privileged people access both? Join the Glean Team! The Glean Team is a group of volunteers who travel to local farms to harvest and rescue produce that would otherwise go to waste. Blue Mountain Action Council distributes the collected food to local families in need. To sign up, put your email and name into this Google Document.

In accordance with Washington state Labor & Industries employer requirements, we are notifying the campus community that since yesterday, three people with Whitman access were confirmed positive for COVID-19.
Please continue to follow all our campus COVID-19 protocols to help prevent transmission. If you have any symptoms that may be COVID-19 or know that you may have been exposed to coronavirus, please be tested. Additional masks and rapid test kits are available 7:30-11:30 a.m. and 1:30-4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, at the Welty Student Health Center.

Submissions should be 125 words or less. The deadline is noon for the following day's newsletter. Submissions may be edited and/or held for a later date according to space and editorial needs. Your submission also authorizes use on Whitman's social media unless otherwise specified.
