Fast Faculty Development: Mid-Semester Feedback
Feature by: Center for Teaching and Learning
Typically, the Center for Teaching and Learning facilitates professional learning in events that take an hour or more of your time. Associate Dean for Faculty Development Mary Raschko discusses high-impact teaching practices in a more succinct form. This short 3-minute professional development video focuses on gathering mid-semester feedback as an important opportunity to:
- Reflect on and recenter course goals.
- Foster communal connection and communal accountability.
- Empower students to improve their learning and class environment.
While the video pertains to classroom teaching, everyone at Whitman might think of mid-semester as an occasion to reflect on how we’re engaging in our work, both individually and in collaborative community.

Review Your Contributions
Fall is a great time to review the contributions to your TIAA 403(b) retirement account. You can contribute up to $22,500 in 2023, and up to an additional $7,500 if you are 50 years of age or older. (See attached flyer.)
If you don’t recall how much you are contributing, take a look at your payroll summary on myWhitman. Review the “year-to-date” as well as “this period” to make sure you are projected to stay under the limit. Keep in mind that you will be able to contribute three more times this calendar year (October, November and December payrolls).
If you need to make changes to your contribution, please email hr@whitman.edu, and you will receive a new salary reduction agreement through BambooHR. In order for your new form to go into effect for October payroll, Human Resources needs to receive your form by Sunday, Oct. 15.
