Youth Climate Justice and Activism Speaker Series #2
|
The second event in the Youth Climate Justice and Activism Speaker Series will be held at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 1 in Olin Hall 138. The event features two youth activists discussing their work:
- Dakota Peebler (pictured, left): Co-founder of Heirs To Our Oceans, a San Francisco bay area based organization inspiring new leaders through education, cultivating skills and supporting youth in realizing solutions to global challenges.
- Latifah Nansubuga (pictured, right): Heirs To Our Oceans member from Uganda, Climate Smart Urban Farming developer and gender-based-violence activist.

Whitties Recognized for Voter Participation
|
Whitman College was recently recognized as a 2022 Most Engaged Campus for College Student Voting by the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge which recognizes colleges and universities for their intentional non-partisan efforts to increase student voter participation.

Western Epiphanies Today and Tomorrow
|
The 2022 Semester in the West group is back on campus following three months of intensive fieldwork in eight western states. There will be two presentations this week (by different sets of returning "Westies") on Tuesday, Nov. 29 and Wednesday, Nov. 30 at 4 p.m. in Maxey Auditorium. Livestream viewing access will also be available.

Visiting Writers Series: Thursday
|
The next event in the Visiting Writers Reading Series will take place on Thursday, Dec. 1 at 7 p.m. in Kimball Theatre. The reading will feature Visiting Assistant Professor of English Shangyang Fang who grew up in Chengdu, China and writes in both English and Chinese. A graduate from Michener Center for Writers, he is a recipient of the Gregory O’Donoghue International Poetry Award and the Wallace Stegner fellowship from Stanford University.

Students, check your email for the HEDS Campus Climate Survey link. This anonymous survey asks students for their perceptions of Whitman’s campus climate, perceptions of how Whitman supports diversity and equity, and about experiences with discrimination and harassment. Your feedback is needed!

Support a Local Family This Holiday Season
|
Whitman's annual Walla Walla Family Gift Drive is underway! Here are the five simple steps to supporting a family:
- Collect money (budget is approximately $40 per family member).
- Contact communityprojects@whitman.edu by Thursday, Dec. 1 (include what size of a family you are able to support).
- Go shopping (use the wish lists as your guides).
- Label your family's gifts. (But don't wrap yet! You're all invited to the gift wrapping event on Saturday, Dec. 10.)
- Deliver the gifts to Reid G02 on Friday, Dec. 9 between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m.
