Rob Schlegel Publishes Book of Poetry
|
Senior Adjunct Assistant Professor of General Studies and Composition Rob Schlegel recently published his fourth book of poetry, titled “Childcare” (Four Way Books). The poems in this collection explore the tangled emotions that accompany the paradox at the root of raising kids—joy of new life paired with an awareness of potential loss.

Renewable Energy Lunch Seminar Monday
|
The Whitman Innovation Network will host a guest seminar by alum Neal Aronson ’88 at noon on Monday, April 3 in Brattain Auditorium. In his talk titled “Renewable Energy and Entrepreneurship,” Aronson, the founder and CEO of several renewable energy companies, will share his expertise in conducting clean energy real estate projects. A free pizza lunch will be provided.

Last Call: Inclusive Excellence Award Nominations

Today is the final day to submit nominations for the Division of Diversity and Inclusion’s 2023 Inclusive Excellence Awards—recognizing staff, faculty and students who have made significant contributions to the advancement of inclusive excellence at Whitman in the last year.

Reminder: April NW5C Workshops
|
The Northwest 5 Consortium (NW5C), a collaboration between Whitman College, Willamette University, Reed College, University of Puget Sound and Lewis and Clark College, will present two virtual professional development events in April. “Centering Community Engagement in Equity and Excellence” will take place at noon on Friday, April 7, and “Ethical Dilemmas in Community Engaged Partnerships: Strategies for Critical Solidarity” will take place at noon on Friday, April 14. QPR Suicide Prevention Training (Faculty, Staff)
|
Faculty and staff are invited to participate in a two hour training session provided by Counseling Center staff. The QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) model has been proven to decrease suicide risk in communities like ours. Participants will be certified as a QPR Gatekeeper, valid for one year. The training will take place from 1–3 p.m. on Friday April 14 in Reid G02. Space is limited, so please RSVP in advance and email questions to QPR@whitman.edu. (See attached flyer.)

Don’t Park in Loading Zones
|
The parking lot behind Harper Joy Theatre and the Hall of Science has several parking spots that are reserved as a loading area, which is used for many field trips. As indicated by signage, please do not park in those spaces Monday through Friday before 1 p.m.

In accordance with Washington State Labor & Industries employer requirements, we are notifying the campus community that since yesterday, two people with Whitman access were confirmed positive for COVID-19.
Please continue to follow all our campus COVID-19 protocols and if you have any symptoms that may be COVID-19 or know that you may have been exposed to coronavirus, please be tested.
