The Division of Academic Affairs at Whitman College includes various departments and programs across campus, from Athletics to Penrose Library to Technology Services.
Twice a year, in January and June, the Academic Affairs staff come together to meet new colleagues, learn from each other and engage in interactive activities. According to Provost and Dean of the Faculty Alzada J. Tipton, these gatherings are an important way to promote enjoyable interactions and foster growth and learning among these staff.
This year’s Academic Affairs Staff Retreat included a presentation titled “Neurodiversity Across Campus” by Laura A. Cummings, Assistant Director of the Academic Resource Center. The retreat also included a variety of ice breakers and the sharing of challenges, affirmations and accomplishments.
A variety of recreational activities were also available for staff to choose from in the afternoon, including:
|
- Bonsai Tree Demonstration – by Pat Spencer, the Grace F. Phillips Professor of Geology
- Spring Rolls Cooking Class – by Nimal Amarasinghe, Bon Appétit Executive Chef
- Introduction to Climbing - by Brien Sheedy and Stuart Chapin, Director and Assistant Director of Outdoor Programs
(Everyone made it to the top of the wall!)
- Yoga and Meditation – by Allie Keppel, Adjunct Instructor of Sport Studies
