2024 Salmon Film Festival

Please join us for Whitman College’s annual Salmon Film Festival, celebrating the cultures, advocacy work and environmental stewardship of the Plateau tribes of the Pacific Northwest. (Flyer attached.)
Friday, April 12:
|
- All day - Traditional salmon bake on Ankeny Field.
- 5:30 p.m. - Opening ceremony on Ankeny Field.
- 6 p.m. - Salmon dinner on Ankeny Field.
- 7 p.m. - Film screening of “Covenant of the Salmon People” in Maxey Auditorium, followed by a post-screening discussion.

- 1 p.m. - Native Showcase at the Whitman women’s lacrosse game on Hayner Field.
- 3 p.m. - Opening ceremony and ceremonial salmon dance in Maxey Auditorium.
- 4:30 p.m. - Film screenings of “The Lost Fish” and “Umatilla Youth” in Maxey Auditorium, followed by post-screening discussion.
- 7 p.m. - Film screening of “A Reflection of Life” in Maxey Auditorium, followed by panel discussion.
- 9:15 p.m. - Closing ceremony in Maxey Auditorium.

Rich Hinz To Appear in Film Screened in Walla Walla Next Week
|
Rich Hinz, Developer and Application Support with Technology Services, appears in the 2023 film “Sometimes I Think About Dying” which stars Daisy Ridley from the “Star Wars” franchise. The film will have a local screening on Wednesday, April 17 at 7 p.m. at Gesa Power House Theatre.

5th Annual Resume Challenge Begins Today
|
The Career and Community Engagement Center announces the 5th Annual Resume Challenge from Thursday, April 11 to Tuesday, April 23. Students are invited to submit their resumes (via Handshake) for review by a panel of alumni judges and the chance to win prizes and be featured on social media. (Flyer attached.)

Student Clubs Host Eid Celebration Tonight
|
Three different student organizations (Muslim Student Association, Arab Culture Club and South Asian Student Association) are collaborating to host a campuswide celebration of Eid, the festival marking the end of Ramadan. Join them for an evening of traditional food, clothing, dancing and music on Thursday, April 11, from 6–8 p.m. in the Cordiner Hall foyer. (Flyer attached.)

African Music and Dance Events This Week

The Whitman African Student Association and Department of Theater and Dance are hosting events by music and dance group Gansango.

International Night on Sunday
|
Whitman Events Board and International Student & Scholar Services will co-sponsor an International Night event on Sunday, April 14 from 5–7 p.m. in the Reid Campus Center Young Ballroom. The program will include acts ranging from musical performances to international dances to a Varsity International Athlete panel, plus international food, henna, a photo booth and more.
