As the week gets underway and we move closer to Commencement, my colleagues and I are reading and re-reading two incredibly compelling pieces of new research from our friends at the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) that students—and especially seniors—will want to understand related to hiring trends and shifting “forms” of work.
First, employers responding to the NACE Job Outlook 2022 Spring Update survey reported that they plan to hire almost one-third (31.6%) more new college graduates from this year’s graduating class than they hired from the Class of 2021. Hiring activity is surging and shows no signs of slowing in the foreseeable future.
Second, NACE also looked at the kinds of roles that employers are hiring for, which are becoming increasingly diversified. Employers indicate that “an average of 41% of their overall positions are performed in a hybrid manner and an average of 39% of their overall positions are fully in person. Only 20% of their overall positions are performed in a fully remote work environment.” Looking ahead, NACE observed, “While it may be too early to proclaim the shift to the blended approach to work is here to stay, the hybrid modality does provide a level of flexibility that is appealing to many employees, seasoned as well as new hires.”
