Whitman College Campaign Launching in October
|
Feature by: Steve Setchell, Vice President for Development & Alumni Relations
|
In a few short weeks, the Whitman community will have an opportunity to come together for a historic and festive celebration of the college and of our aspirations for the future. Join us on Friday, Oct. 13 from 3:30–5 p.m. on Ankeny Field as we publicly launch an ambitious, comprehensive fundraising campaign to advance our mission, support our students and expand the impact our alumni make in the world.
The weekend’s events will mark the first time in at least 60 years that the college has publicly launched a major fundraising campaign on campus—the heart of our community. We do so because the funds raised in this campaign are so important to sustaining and advancing Whitman’s programs and promise; this campaign is about all of us. The celebration on Ankeny Field will feature student and faculty musicians, food trucks and a brief presentation. College offices will be closed during the event to enable community attendance.
The community is also invited to a panel discussion in Chism Recital Hall on Friday, Oct. 13 at 2 p.m., titled “The World Needs Whitties: Finding Success and Purpose in a Changing World.” Moderated by President Bolton, the panel will feature Cecilia Kang ’94 (English Language and Literature), New York Times reporter and best-selling author; Tom Lapham ’99 (Asian Studies), CEO of CHEQ, founder of renewable energy ventures; Dottie Metcalf-Lindenburger ’97 (Geology), astronaut, educator and geologist; Drew Shoals ’05 (African American Studies), Corporate Counsel at Amazon Music, former drummer of Train; and Jonathan Sposato ’89 (Political Science), serial tech entrepreneur, founder of JoySauce, Chairman of GeekWire and owner of Seattle Magazine.
I look forward to seeing you!

Whitman uses Everbridge for its emergency communications, which is able to send alerts by email, text and phone call as well as to the Everbridge app. We highly recommend adding the Everbridge app to your smart device.
Reminder: There will be a planned test of the emergency alert system this week!
