Anthropology Students Present at Conference
|
Three Whitman students and their professor recently presented at the University of Oregon's "Futures of Work Symposium."
At a session titled "Shaping the Future through Experiential Learning and Impactful Research," Margaret Kanyoko '25, Franko Omair '25, and Owen Jakel '25, together with Associate Professor of Anthropology and Environmental Studies Eunice Blavascunas, reported on the Spring 2022 field course, Land, Water, Justice.
Sharing experiences of learning on a formerly segregated logging camp and the unceded territories of the Nimíipuu (Nez Perce), the Whitman College presentation, highlighted what happens at the interface of student learning and community partnership when examining issues of labor history on the land.
The Land, Water, Justice course will be offered again in 2023 and is part of the University of Oregon's Just Futures Institute funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
