The Whitman College Debate and Forensics coaching staff extends an invitation to the 2024 National Parliamentary Tournament of Excellence (NPTE), hosted here on campus on Saturday, April 27 and Sunday, April 28 in Maxey Hall.
In 2001, Whitman College hosted the first NPTE, and 20+ years later we are incredibly proud to have the national tournament here again. This is the first debate tournament hosted on Whitman’s campus in over a decade!

How to watch: You can find a complete schedule in the tournament invitation available at nptedebate.com. Additionally, if you want to follow along with one of Whitman’s four teams in the pool you can find round pairings at tabroom.com.
Some important notes: While this national tournament is an “open” event, competitors always reserve the right to forgo an audience. Please be respectful of these requests, and take additional care when spectating to not influence the outcome of the debate by avoiding cheering, clapping, recording, texting or any other distracting behavior. Additionally, parliamentary debate takes place at a rather rapid speed of delivery (approximately 300–350 words per minute) and might be difficult to follow at times. I have gone ahead and provided an example here, but spectators should expect rapid delivery, critical argumentation and speeches focused on content over form.
Please join me in welcoming this year’s NPTE National Championship Tournaments competitors from Parliamentary Debate at Berkeley, University of Texas at Tyler, University of the Pacific, William Jewell College, Kansas City Kansas Community College, San Diego State University, McKendree University, Saint Mary's College and of course, your own, Whitman College.
Go Blues!
