Coming Soon: Simulated Phishing Campaign
|
As part of Whitman College’s ongoing efforts to secure our online environment and user accounts, WCTS is announcing a campaign to assess our community’s awareness and response to email phishing scams.
The purpose of a simulated phishing campaign is purely educational. The aggregate data from the initial exercise will be used to inform future campaigns and to advise what type of educational opportunities will best meet the needs of our community.
All results will be anonymous and confidential. No supervisors will have access to the results of individual employees. No employee will have access to the results for individual students. These exercises and the results will not be used to reprimand, punish, embarrass, shame or otherwise disparage any participant at any time.
Identifying and assessing out-of-context or unexpected requests in email is an important part of keeping your accounts safe online.
We will share the results of this initial assessment with campus at a future date. Safe computing.

The Long Tent: Piece by Piece
|
Tomorrow morning you may notice unusual activity on the east side of Ankeny. Our partners at the Whitman Mission National Historic Site and the Tamástslikt Cultural Institute are delivering materials that will be used to build the kwalk ineet (“long tent” in the Walla Walla Sahaptin language). Please be extra attentive when you are near the construction site and respect the elders and cultural consultants who will be supervising the creation of the structure. Please also respect the private hired security and the soft fence around the site, as the construction materials are expensive, difficult to replace and do not belong to Whitman College.
Then, at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, April 19, Don Sampson, Chief of the Walúulapam (Walla Walla people) and also the executive director of Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation (CTUIR), will lead the Long Tent opening ceremony. Hereditary and elected leaders from CTUIR and other tribes of the Columbia Plateau will be present, as will leaders from Walla Walla and Whitman College. Please respect the importance and seriousness of this unique ceremony while it is taking place.
Finally, Whitman community members are invited to attend one of two Long Tent 101 sessions—at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 19, or at noon on Wednesday, April 20—each lasting about 50 minutes.
Please keep your eye on the Long Tent website for continued updates and details about each event. Thank you for your commitment to the unique historical importance of the project!

In accordance with Washington state Labor & Industries employer requirements, we are notifying the campus community that in the past 24 hours, two people with Whitman access were confirmed positive for COVID-19. These people are now in isolation for 10 days in accordance with our campus and CDC guidelines. Though the likelihood of transmission is low due to our campus COVID-19 protocols, it is possible that others may have been exposed to COVID-19. There is nothing you need to do at this time aside from following our campus COVID-19 protocols. Anyone identified through the contact tracing process as a close contact (within 6 ft. for at least 15 minutes over 24 hours) will be personally notified.
