Spring is in full bloom at Whitman, and with it come many prospective and admitted students and their families! April is an important month in the admissions cycle, with visits taking place every week Monday through Saturday and large admitted students programs taking place April 2, 9 and 23.
While these visits often play a vital role in whether or not a student commits to attending Whitman, another important factor is cost. Whitman continues to garner national appreciation for its early financial aid guarantee—most recently in this NY Times article featuring Interim Vice President for Admissions and Financial Aid Adam Miller. Providing up front and transparent financial aid details is something that many of these admitted students have benefited from, and in an admissions season when they were very short-staffed, the team in Whitman’s Office of Financial Aid deserves some serious accolades for their commitment to making that happen.
As Miller looks at how the Class of 2026 is coming together, he notes, “We're currently on track to meet our enrollment goals, but since most admitted students wait until the end of April to finalize their decision it’s still too early to know.”
Whatever your role at Whitman, you have a part to play in welcoming admitted students over the next few weeks. Here are a few ways to help:
- Smile! Be ready to turn a friendly face to people you pass on campus.
- Wear your Whitman gear, especially on the days that admitted students programs are taking place.
- Be conscientious about parking. Please do not park in the spaces labeled for admissions visitors at Baker Center or anywhere that blocks campus sidewalks or pathways.
Thank you to everyone who engages with these admitted students from the initial point of contact through their upcoming visits and decisions, answering questions, extending invitations to classes and events and sharing what you love about Whitman.
