The first episodes of the new "Our Whitman, My Story" podcast have dropped just in time for your weekend enjoyment! Listen to current students share their unique experiences in choosing Whitman, being part of the Whitman community and what they love most. You’ll meet a diverse range of storytellers from first-year students to international scholars to nontraditional students.

 

“Our Whitman, My Story” is a collaboration between the Whitman College Office of Communication and John Moe, groundbreaking podcaster, writer and Whitman alum (Class of 1990). You can find all the episodes and more stories from current Whitties in the new multimedia blog "Student Voices."

Whitman Emergency Alert Test: Were You Notified?

Yesterday at 2:25 p.m. we carried out a test of the Whitman Emergency Alerts system, which sends notifications by email, text and phone call as well as to the Everbridge app. If you did not receive the test alert, please follow these steps to update your emergency contact information:

  • Log on to my.whitman.edu
  • Select the “My Profile” tab at the top
  • Select “Campus Alerts” link from the list on the left
  • Enter or update your information

Biswas Discusses Academic Theme in Chronicle Webinar

Shampa Biswas, professor of politics, recently participated in a webinar for "The Chronicle of Higher Education" on how Whitman's adoption of an academic theme provides a curricular offering that distinguishes us from other colleges. In the virtual forum, “How Do You Distinguish Yourself Through Your Curriculum?,” Biswas was part of a panel of experts discussing best practices for revising the curriculum. The webinar is available to view on-demand.

COVID-19 Case on Campus

In accordance with Washington state Labor & Industries employer requirements, we are notifying the campus community that in the past 24 hours, two people with Whitman access were confirmed positive for COVID-19. These people are now in isolation for 10 days in accordance with our campus and CDC guidelines. Though the likelihood of transmission is low due to our campus COVID-19 protocols, it is possible that others may have been exposed to COVID-19. There is nothing you need to do at this time aside from following our campus COVID-19 protocols. Anyone identified through the contact tracing process as a close contact (within 6 ft. for at least 15 minutes over 24 hours) will be personally notified.

Submissions are welcome! If you have a professional or personal accomplishment to celebrate, an event to publicize or other content to share with the Whitman community, email whitmantoday@whitman.edu. Submissions should be 125 words or less. The deadline for submissions is noon for the following day's newsletter, though submissions may be held for a later date according to space and editorial needs. By submitting to Whitman Today you also authorize use on Whitman's social media unless otherwise specified.
