Dialogue & Dignity Series: Liora Halperin

The Dialogue & Dignity Series continues this week with Liora Halperin, Ph.D., Professor of International Studies and History and Distinguished Endowed Chair of Jewish Studies at the University of Washington. She is a historian of Israel/Palestine with particular interests in nationalism and collective memory, Jewish cultural and social history, language ideology and policy, and the politics of colonization and settlement. She is currently working on a book about descendants of the urban Jewish communities of late Ottoman Palestine and their role in land settlement and the growth of the Zionist project.
Tuesday, March 5:

- Noon–1:30 p.m. - Lunch session with students, faculty and staff in Memorial Building, room 331: “Sustaining caring and supportive communities amidst grief, despair, and anger.”
- 2–5 p.m. - Open office hours in Memorial Building, room 326.
- 5:15–6:30 p.m. - Dinner with faculty in Baker Center.
- 7 p.m. - Public talk in Brattain Auditorium in the Hall of Science: “Gaza, Israel, Palestine: Histories of the Present.” (Flyer attached.)

- 8:30–10 a.m. - Breakfast with staff and faculty in Memorial Building, room 331: “Talking thoughtfully with students about Israel/Palestine when the stakes are high and the tensions run deep.”

Monthly Trivia & Sips and Suds Tonight
|
The monthly Battle of the W(h)its Trivia and Sips and Suds events are happening on Tuesday, March 5 from 5–7 p.m. in the Reid Campus Center Café. Beer, cider and wine will be available to purchase (for those 21 and over). Trivia begins at 5:30 p.m.

Pop-Up Clothing Swap on Thursday
|
The ASWC Sustainability Committee will host a Clothing Swap event on Thursday, March 7 from 3–6 p.m. in the Reid Campus Center foyer. The committee has already collected a starting supply of clothes for this event. Stop by and take, swap or drop off clothing items in an effort to reduce textile waste and fight fast fashion trends. All clothes that are not wanted will be donated sustainably to location organizations. (Flyer attached.)

Women’s Adventure Film Tour on Thursday
|
The Outdoor Program and Whitman Events Board are co-sponsoring the Women’s Adventure Film Tour on Thursday, March 7 at 7 p.m. in Maxey Auditorium. Celebrating extraordinary women and their thrilling adventures, this event will feature eight films, including skiing, scuba diving, cycling and other adventures. This event is free for Whitman students and participants will have the opportunity to win prizes just for showing up. (Flyer attached.)
