The Division of Diversity and Inclusion has filled three critical positions in promoting issues of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at Whitman College.
This month, we welcome Tebraie Banda-Johns as the Director of the Intercultural Center, Rachel Freeman-Cohen as the Director of LGBTQIA+ Student Services and Quin Nelson '16 as the college's DEIA Program Coordinator. Their main focus will be taking on issues of inclusion for the entire campus community to promote a sense of belonging for all faculty, staff and students.
Banda-Johns previously worked in supporting student clubs and organizations at Boise State University with a specific focus on affinity groups, and created inclusive programming for underserved, marginalized students.
Freeman-Cohen most recently worked in the LGBTQ+ Student Center at the University of Southern California, where they provided support, education, advocacy, and community for all undergraduate and graduate students with an emphasis on students across the spectra of gender and sexuality.
Since graduating from Whitman in 2016, Nelson has served in a variety of roles in education and equity, most recently as a fourth grade teacher at Howard Elementary in Eugene, Oregon.
