Next week, our campus will host an evaluation team from the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU)—the entity authorized by the U.S. Department of Education to provide accreditation to Whitman College.

The goal of accreditation is to ensure that institutions of higher education meet acceptable levels of quality. This re-accreditation visit is part of our regular seven-year cycle of self-assessment and peer evaluation. Additional information and reports are available online.

Whitman students, faculty and staff are encouraged to attend one of the scheduled open forums to provide feedback (FAQ for faculty/staff, FAQ for students).

Student open forum:

  • Monday, April 15 at noon in Olin Auditorium (lunch provided).

Faculty open forum:

  • Monday, April 15 at 4 p.m. in Olin Auditorium (refreshments provided).

Staff open forum:

  • Tuesday, April 16 at 11 a.m. in Olin Auditorium (refreshments provided).

The visiting peer evaluation team will include: Mark Stewart, Professor of Psychology, Willamette University; Carina Niedermier Beck, Vice Provost of the Allen Yarnell Center for Student Success, Montana State University; Lisa Carstens, Vice Provost for Academic Affairs, Pacific University; Mark Heidrich, Associate Vice President for Institutional Effectiveness & Registrar, The College of Idaho; Randy Aliment, Senior Vice President for Legal and Regulatory Affairs, Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities; and Gita Bangera, Senior Vice President, Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities.

Whitman community members may also communicate with NWCCU during the visit via email to info@nwccu.org.
