WIG Supports Food Justice for Kids
|
“I am so grateful for the funding that the Whitman Internship Grant provided for me to have an experience so linked with my academic and career interests. With a background in environmental studies and sociology, it has been rewarding working to address inequities in food access, as well as work to create new avenues for local foods in our communities.”

With support from a Whitman Internship Grant, junior environmental studies-sociology major Sammy Smith is interning with Walla Walla Valley Farm to School, an organization working to improve kids’ nutrition and food access through garden experience and supporting schools to purchase locally grown produce for their cafeterias.
Smith’s connection with the nonprofit started as a volunteer last semester through coursework for Community Based Sociology (SOC 211). With input from her volunteer supervisor, Smith developed a job description that she turned into an internship this spring.

Security: Vehicles and Possession
|
In the past few weeks, we have had several reports of vehicle break-ins. Whether you’re parking your car in a campus parking lot, on the street or in a driveway, remember these tips for keeping your vehicle and possessions safe:
- Always lock your doors.
- Roll up and close car windows.
- Do not leave valuables (such as phones, wallets, laptops, backpacks, sports equipment, etc.) in your vehicle.
- Put valuables and packages in the trunk or out of sight if you cannot remove them from the vehicle.
- If you have the option, choose a parking spot that is well-lit.
- Do not hide a spare key in or on your car.
