Whitman Joins Culture of Respect Cohort
|
Whitman College has joined a group of 15 colleges and universities from across North America in the eighth cohort of NASPA’s Culture of Respect Collective program. The Collective is an ambitious two-year program that brings together institutions of higher education who are dedicated to ending campus sexual violence and guides them through a rigorous process of self-assessment and targeted organizational change.
Whitman’s Collective participation will be led by Kersten Bergstrom, Assistant Director of Community Health and Sexual Violence Prevention Specialist (pictured, left), and Cassandre Beccai, Director of Equity and Compliance and Title IX Coordinator (pictured, right). They will guide a committee composed of students, staff, and faculty spread across several departments in creating sustainable change aimed at preventing and addressing sexual violence. President Sarah Bolton’s personal commitment to this work led Whitman College to join the Collective. Since taking office, Bolton has created and cultivated a Culture of Respect here at Whitman and is currently an Emeritus Advisor to the Collective.
The Collective program is an adaptable model that helps institutions work across departmental silos and stay connected with peers as they engage in the critical work of comprehensively addressing campus sexual violence, within a shifting social and political landscape.
Through a multi-tiered, educational, inclusive lens, this two-year program will result in sustainable change aimed at preventing and addressing sexual violence on our campus.
We are enthusiastic about engaging in this transformative and important work and look forward to building relationships with NASPA and peer institutions in the program, as we work to create a campus community in which all students, faculty and staff can thrive in a Culture of Respect.
For more information and find out how you can be part of this program, please contact Kersten Bergstrom at bergstrk@whitman.edu.
