Watch Out for Email Scams
|
Scammers and phishers are constantly trying new approaches to compromise your accounts and online security.
|
- Be skeptical, especially of emails that seem out of context, imply a sense of urgency or ask for something out-of-the-ordinary.
- Verify the from: email address (don’t rely on the displayed name of the sender).
- If you are viewing the message on your phone, double-check it on a computer where it may be easier to check links and email addresses.
- Hover your cursor over hyperlinks to see where they might take you (or don’t click on links at all).
- Don't open attachments you are not expecting.
- If in doubt, contact the sender via a known, previously used method.
- Report any suspicious email messages to phishy@whitman.edu.
