Three Faculty Grant Applications Coming in Early 2022
|
There are three prestigious grant competitions occurring in early 2022, making winter break an ideal time for faculty to do some research into whether these opportunities might fit with their scholarly agenda.
- The 2023-24 Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program competition opens in February, with a deadline of Sept. 15, 2022. The new catalog of awards should be released in the coming weeks, giving you an opportunity to browse the available Fulbright awards for the 2023–2024 academic year. Fulbright awards include opportunities for professionals, artists and scholars at all career-levels. Durations range from a few months to a full year and many awards offer flexible durations. Many awards offer a flex option, which is designed for scholars who require multiple visits to the host country. Visit the Fulbright U.S. Scholar page for information on eligibility, review criteria and timelines for application.
- National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Fellowships have a deadline of April 13, 2022. These are competitive awards to individual scholars pursuing projects that embody exceptional research, rigorous analysis and clear writing. Fellowships provide recipients time to conduct research or to produce books, monographs, peer-reviewed articles or other works. The new application will be available Feb. 13, 2022; however, current guidelines, FAQs and examples of funded proposals are always available on the NEH Fellowships website.
- The National Science Foundation has created a new solicitation for mid-career faculty with a deadline of Feb. 7, 2022. This program is designed to give faculty at the associate professor level the time to substantively advance their research program and career trajectory, with a goal to enable and grow a more diverse scientific workforce. Faculty in the sciences and social sciences are eligible to apply.
Remember, applying for a grant takes time and coordination, so it’s never too early to start planning. Contact Rachna Sinnott, director of Grants and Foundation Relations and Whitman’s Fulbright liaison, for information, resources and assistance.

Positive COVID-19 cases in our campus community are noted in Whitman Today in compliance with state regulations. We also update the data in our COVID-19 Dashboard every Monday.
In accordance with Washington state Labor & Industries employer requirements, we are notifying the campus community that in the past 24 hours, two people with Whitman access were confirmed positive for COVID-19. These people are now in isolation for 10 days in accordance with our campus and CDC guidelines. Though the likelihood of transmission is low due to our campus COVID-19 protocols, it is possible that others may have been exposed to COVID-19. There is nothing you need to do at this time aside from following our campus COVID-19 protocols. Anyone identified through the contact tracing process as a close contact (within 6 ft. for at least 15 minutes over 24 hours) will be personally notified.
