Whitman’s Music Department is proud to celebrate 13 singers who competed in the National Association of Teachers of Singing Regional Intermountain Student Auditions held this spring: Gillian Mackay Brown ’23, Ellie Cain ’25, Joshua Cox ’25, Kellen Flynn ’25, Cade Gordon ’25, Sara Earing ’26, David Kretz ’25, Ravi Narayan ’23, Cyri Nemecek ’23, Aziz Sahbazovic ’24, Carmel Stephan ’25, Morgan Stone ’23 and Natalie Traw ’23.
The competition also included singers from other universities in Alberta, Canada, Eastern Washington, Eastern Oregon, Idaho and Montana.

Alanna Sherman Awarded Newman Civic Fellowship
|
Sociology major Alanna Sherman ’24 was recently awarded a 2023 Newman Civic Fellowship, which recognizes students who stand out for their commitment to creating positive change in communities locally and around the world. Campus Compact will provide fellows with a year of learning and networking opportunities that emphasize personal, professional and civic growth. Alanna is actively engaging with food justice issues at Whitman and in the Walla Walla community.

Student Art Exhibit Opening in Fouts Today
|
Agustin "Ramí" Ramirez ’25 will open an art exhibition titled “You’re not going to believe me” at 1:30 p.m. today in the Fouts Center for Visual Arts. The project was inspired by interviews between Ramirez and his uncle and features two bedroom installations. The exhibit will be open through May 7.

Tomorrow is Spring Into Whitman Day #2
|
This weekend, Whitman College will host nearly 500 admitted students and their families for the second of two Admitted Students days. Please help us in creating a welcoming environment as these students make their college decision.

Sherwood Athletic Center Closing Early Saturday
|
The Sherwood Athletic Center will be closing at noon on Saturday, April 15 in preparation for Whitman College women’s volleyball home games. This year, Division I, Division II and Division III will all be playing in Sherwood.

- 2 p.m. - Whitman vs. Whitworth
- 4 p.m. - Whitman vs. Whitworth
- 6 p.m. - Washington State University vs. Central Washington University
|
Admission to these games is free.

Tri-College Community Day Sunday
|
All members of the community are invited to join students from Walla Walla Community College, Walla Walla University and Whitman College for Tri-College Community Day from noon–4 p.m. on Sunday, April 16. Lunch will be provided; transportation is available; and you can choose from a variety of community service projects in the area. Advance registration is available online. (See also this week’s Whitman Wire article.)
