Third Space Speaker Series: The Scholarship of Hip-Hop
|
The Third Space Speaker Series features scholars, artists, writers and thought leaders whose work helps to advance inclusive excellence at Whitman and serves as an intentional manifestation of the college’s stated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and antiracism.
The first event in this year's series is tonight at 6 p.m. in the Reid Campus Center Young Ballroom. The event will feature a dialogue between Dr. Jared Ball, professor of communication studies at Morgan State University, and Dr. A.D. Carson, assistant professor of hip-hop and the global South, centered around the scholarship of hip-hop.
The Third Space Speaker Series is presented by the Division of Diversity & Inclusion with support from the Johnston-Fix Foundation.

Recent Graduate Featured by Team USA
|
Rebecca Johnston '22 was featured this week on the website and social channels of Team USA. Johnston is expected to be classified by the International Paralympic Committee later this year and has her sights set on international snowboarding competitions.

Blues Golf Team Wins Boxer Invitational
|
The Whitman College men's golf team took home the Boxer Invitational title on Sunday at a tournament hosted by Pacific University of Oregon. The women's golf team also played well, with Cindy Luo '26 earning an individual title.

Health Speaker Series Tonight
|
Dr. Nicole Bates '07 serves as an attending psychiatrist at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center and clinical assistant professor of psychiatry at the University of Washington. This virtual event takes place tonight at 7 p.m.

Decolonizing Christianity: A Bible Study
|
Interfaith Chaplain Adam Kirtley will facilitate Decolonizing Christianity, a weekly discussion that explores the ways in which the Bible can be seen as a tool of oppression and of liberation. The discussion group will be engaged through a Christian lens. All are welcome to attend Fridays at 2 p.m. in the new All Faiths Room (Reid 110). No need to sign up, no prep, and no homework!

Whitman Events Board announces "Karaoke Night" on Friday, Sept. 23 at 7 p.m. in Reid Campus Center Basement. Sign up in advance or just show up and cheer people on. Free pizza and popcorn will be provided!

Fall Whitman Internship Grant Applications Due Friday

Whitman Internship Grant (WIG) applications are due Friday, Sept. 23!
WIG is a competitive grant that provides funding to students who secure or build an unpaid internship opportunity at non-profit organizations, some for-profit organizations, and government offices. In accordance with Washington state Labor & Industries employer requirements, we are notifying the campus community that since yesterday, four people with Whitman access were confirmed positive for COVID-19.
Please continue to follow all our campus COVID-19 protocols to help prevent transmission. If you have any symptoms that may be COVID-19 or know that you may have been exposed to coronavirus, please be tested. Additional masks and rapid test kits are available 7:30-11:30 a.m. and 1:30-4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, at the Welty Student Health Center.
