CTUIR Veterans Appreciation Event
|
On Veterans Day, the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation (CTUIR) held their annual Veterans Day Appreciation Event at the Nixyáawii Warriors Memorial located on the Umatilla Indian Reservation near Pendleton, Oregon. The ceremony included speakers, traditional drumming and singing, and a first foods meal.
Several members of the Whitman community attended the event, including Lindsey Pasena-Littlesky, one of the inaugural recipients of the Šináata Scholarship, awarded in partnership between the CTUIR and Whitman College.
Also in attendance were three members of the Whitman College Advisory Council for CTUIR Collaboration (WCACCC): Printing and Mailing Manager Jeanine Gordon (CTUIR enrolled tribal member), Interim Director of Admission Recruitment Kris Surovjak, and Director of the Career and Community Engagement Center Noah Leavitt.

Blues Baseball Coach Selected as Summer League Head Coach
|
Whitman College Assistant Baseball Coach Colby Watilo will be the next head coach of the Xenia Scouts in the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League, which is supported by and partners with Major League Baseball. Watilo will coach players from NCAA, NAIA and junior college levels from across the country for the 2023 summer season that runs in June-July.

Whitman Alum Costars in "Spirited" Musical Comedy
|
Tony-nominated alum Patrick Page '85 appears in the new movie "Spirited" this holiday season alongside costars Will Ferrell, Ryan Reynolds and Octavia Spencer. Page plays the character of Marley in a comedy-musical retelling of "A Christmas Carol," available today in select movie theaters and globally on Apple+.

Whitman Today Goes Weekly During Thanksgiving Break
|
Next week is Thanksgiving Break for students. In light of the reduced campus activity, Whitman Today will only be published on Monday of next week and will resume a normal publishing schedule on Monday, Nov. 28.

Men's Basketball Home Games This Weekend
|
The Whitman men's basketball team will host their 2022-2023 home opener this weekend, welcoming Sul Ross State University and the University of Maine at Fort Kent to Walla Walla.
- Saturday, Nov. 19: Sherwood Athletic Center closes at 12 p.m. for 3 p.m. game.
- Sunday, Nov. 20: Sherwood Athletic Center closes at 1 p.m. for 4 p.m. game.
As a reminder, students, faculty and staff can reserve their free tickets in advance online.

Dance Workshops November 28-30

Harper Joy Theatre's upcoming Studio Series (December 1-3) will be preceded by three dance workshops with the featured guest artists in the Freimann Studio Theatre:

In accordance with Washington state Labor & Industries employer requirements, we are notifying the campus community that since yesterday, two people with Whitman access were confirmed positive for COVID-19.
Please continue to follow all our campus COVID-19 protocols to help prevent transmission. If you have any symptoms that may be COVID-19 or know that you may have been exposed to coronavirus, please be tested. Additional masks and rapid test kits are available in the front entryway at the Welty Student Health Center during normal operating hours.
