Student Led Community Engagement Opportunities
|
Are you looking for more connection with the greater Walla Walla community? Look no further! Each year, with the support of the Career and Community Engagement Center (CCEC), a cohort of students lead programs which provide opportunities for Whitties to volunteer and connect with the Walla Walla community on a regular basis.
Use the Universal Volunteer Application to apply to many different programs, including:
- Adopt-A-Grandparent pairs Whitman students with residents at the nearby Odd Fellows senior home, helping to improve the quality of life for the residents through consistent companionship. Together, grandparents and volunteers write letters, read books, play games, attend weekly programs at Odd Fellows, and more. Questions? Email grandparent@whitman.edu.
- Buddy Program connects Whitman students with adults with disabilities in Walla Walla. Students meet with their community buddies twice a month for various activities, including crafting or movie nights. Questions? Email buddyprogram@whitman.edu.
- Whitman Friends Program builds strong and lasting friendships between Whitman students and Walla Walla elementary schoolers. Students join their friends at recess once a week and friends visit Whitman campus each spring for a day-long carnival called Friends to Campus Day. Questions? Email friends@whitman.edu.
We will highlight three more programs next week.
