Whitman Emergency Training Exercise
|
On Monday, a group of Whitman College staff, faculty and administrators, together with representatives from the Walla Walla Police Department and the Walla Walla Fire Department, spent the morning thinking and talking about emergency preparedness. The workshop was facilitated by Emergency Planning Solutions (EPS), a consulting firm which specializes in emergency management for institutions of higher learning. It included an emergency response presentation (provided by the Federal Emergency Management Agency) and a tabletop exercise where the participants considered how to respond to a hypothetical emergency scenario involving an active shooter on campus.
Whitman College’s Emergency Planning Team meets monthly and holds larger training exercises like this one quarterly. This week’s event also included members of the Emergency Policy Group and provided a valuable opportunity for each group to discuss their respective roles in a potential crisis situation and an opportunity to ask questions.
If you would like a basic refresher on emergency preparedness, a video recording of a previous EPS presentation is available to view at your convenience. Whitman’s Emergency Operations Plan is also available on the website.
