Debate Team Celebrates Historic Victory
|
This past weekend, Whitman's three parliamentary debate teams traveled to Rice University in Houston, Texas for their first in-person tournament since March 2020:
- Alexa Grechishkin & Kyle Mathy (sophomores)
- Kasey Moulton & Jas Liu (juniors)
- Heidi Adolphsen & Ilse Spiropoulos (seniors)
Under the new leadership of Director of Debate and Forensics Baker Weilert-Pekar, all three of Whitman's debate teams advanced to the quarterfinals and finished in the top three positions, making it a triple close-out, a first in Whitman Debate and Forensics history!

Movement That Matters Starts Monday
|
Whitman's employee wellness program Movement That Matters (MTM) will resume with a 10-week Fall Sampler Session, Monday, Oct. 3 through Friday, Dec. 16. Five classes will be available each week during the noon hour: Pilates, Yoga, Cardio, Strength & Stretch and MELT.

Tri-College Students of Color Social Next Week
|
Are you a student of color looking to build community with other local students of color? The Offices of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion from the three local colleges (Walla Walla Community College, Walla Walla University, Whitman College) will co-host a social gathering on Tuesday, Oct. 4 from 4-6 p.m. at Harper Joy Theatre. Queer Ally Coalition Workshops Announced
|
LGBTQIA+ Student Services will present a series of Queer Ally Coalition (QuAC) workshops open to all faculty, staff and students who do not identify within the LGBTQIA+ community. Attendees will learn how allies can help combat gender and sexual orientation discrimination at Whitman.
Workshops will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 5, Monday, Oct. 10, Wednesday, Oct. 19, and Wednesday, Oct. 26, from 2-4 p.m. in Memorial Hall 331. Participants who attend the full series of workshops will be QuAC-certified by the end of the academic year and will be given a sticker to display in their workspace.

In accordance with Washington state Labor & Industries employer requirements, we are notifying the campus community that since yesterday, three people with Whitman access were confirmed positive for COVID-19.
Please continue to follow all our campus COVID-19 protocols to help prevent transmission. If you have any symptoms that may be COVID-19 or know that you may have been exposed to coronavirus, please be tested. Additional masks and rapid test kits are available 7:30-11:30 a.m. and 1:30-4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, at the Welty Student Health Center.
