Two VP Announcements

Congratulations to Gina Zandy Ohnstad and Adam Miller who have been appointed as Vice Presidents of their respective departments, each having previously filled the role in an interim capacity!

Gina Zandy Ohnstad, Vice President for Communications:

“Gina has led significant progress in communications at Whitman during her eight years at the college,” says President Sarah Bolton. “She brought forward effective new approaches to telling Whitman's story to prospective students and families, and also managed very complex communications throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and presidential transition, all without missing a beat as she stepped into the interim role.”

Adam Miller, Vice President for Admission and Financial Aid:

“Adam has been a major contributor to Whitman’s admission and financial aid strategy during the past 9 years,” says President Sarah Bolton. “He has played key roles in reaching out to students here in our region and around the country, advancing both the diversity and the internationality of our student body significantly and shifting our financial aid to better meet student needs.”

Kaitlyn Patia Presents at AAC&U Conference

Assistant Professor of Rhetoric, Writing & Public Discourse Kaitlyn Patia recently presented on the panel “Creating Curricula, Empowering Communities” at the annual meeting of the American Association of Colleges & Universities (AAC&U). Patia received a grant from Project Pericles—an organization committed to fostering civic engagement within higher education—to incorporate community-based learning into a new course in the rhetoric department. She taught  the course “Rhetorical Field Methods: Equity and Access in Education” during spring semester of 2022. Patia was one of nine Periclean Faculty Leaders selected nationally to share her work at the AAC&U meeting.

Meet a Final Candidate for Vice President of Finance and Administration

Students, faculty and staff are invited to an open session with the third finalist interviewing for the role of Vice President of Finance and Administration. The event takes place at noon today in Maxey Auditorium.

 

Catholic Mass Begins This Weekend at Whitman

The Office of Religious and Spiritual Life announces Catholic Mass services will be held at 5 p.m. on the first and third Saturdays of the month in the All Faiths Room (Reid 110). Fr. Lourdu Mummadi will preside over the services, which will be followed by pizza and fellowship. Questions? Email Interfaith Chaplain Adam Kirtley.

 

Volunteer for Power & Privilege Symposium

The Power & Privilege Symposium is looking for students, faculty and staff to volunteer during the week of February 21–23. Volunteers should expect to attend a training session on Saturday, Feb. 11, and will receive a complimentary “No More Allies” T-shirt. Sign up here.

 

Healthy Cooking Demo with Chef Jon

Faculty and staff are invited to sign up for a free, healthy cooking class at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 9 at Cleveland Commons. Chef Jon Sodini will demonstrate how to prepare delicious food using local ingredients. Samples and recipes will be provided. This event is a collaboration between Bon Appétit, Human Resources and Blue Zones Project Walla Walla Valley. RSVP in advance as space is limited.

In accordance with Washington state Labor & Industries employer requirements, we are notifying the campus community that since yesterday, one person with Whitman access was confirmed positive for COVID-19.

Please continue to follow all our campus COVID-19 protocols to help prevent transmission. If you have any symptoms that may be COVID-19 or know that you may have been exposed to coronavirus, please be tested. Additional masks and rapid test kits are available in the front entryway at the Welty Student Health Center during normal operating hours.
