Creating Equitable Pathways to Leadership

illustration showing team members of various races and genders connecting via video conference

As part of Whitman’s commitment to providing antiracism resources to the campus community, staff and faculty are invited to participate in a virtual seminar, Creating Equitable Pathways to Leadership at 9 a.m. next Wednesday, Dec. 8.

The seminar is produced by the Liberal Arts Colleges Racial Equity Leadership Alliance (LACRELA), which was initiated in 2020 by DePauw President Dr. Lori White. The alliance began with five colleges and a vision “to collaborate on antiracism work, campus climate research and virtual programming for administrators, faculty and staff members on how to better serve students of color and address systemic racism.” Through coordination with the University of Southern California’s Race and Equity Center, LACRELA has grown to include more than 70 institutions—including Whitman College—and actively works to assist higher education professionals in developing inclusive practices, policies and initiatives to advance racial equity.

Next week’s seminar—or “eConvening” as LACRELA calls them—is the latest in the alliance’s curated collection of expert-facilitated programs. The Whitman community has previously had the opportunity to learn about topics including Fostering and Sustaining Inclusive Classrooms for Students of Color; Teaching the Truth About Slavery and America’s Racial History; and Strategically Hiring Faculty of Color.

Visit Whitman's LACRELA page for more information on the alliance or to request access to eConvenings meetings and materials.
