Junior-Senior Housing Project Update
|
Feature by: Tony Ichsan, Assistant Vice President for Facilities Services
|
We are excited to announce that work preparing the Junior-Senior Housing Project site is getting underway, and you will start seeing activity in the area this week.
The Boyer House parking lot will be closed beginning Tuesday, Feb. 6 at 10 p.m. and fencing will be going up around Boyer House and the Glover Alston Center (see dotted line above). We would appreciate your support in being mindful and not entering the construction zone. For alternate parking, consider the WCTS parking lot or on the street.
The Junior-Senior housing complex will provide housing for up to 212 students. Air-conditioned apartments will include fully-functional kitchens so students can cook their own meals—accommodations that help develop a sense of independence and community while also reducing the strain on the local housing supply in Walla Walla.
Three new 3- to 4-story apartment-style student housing buildings will be arranged around a central campus green, through which College Creek meanders from east to west. The weeping cherry tree by Marcus House will be protected and retained.
Each floor in each building will include a shared lounge space. A larger shared lounge and game room on the ground level of Harvey Hall will serve as a social hub, with a fireplace, a space that can be used as a stage, and a large kitchen next to a covered patio, grill and fire pit.
This project is currently tracking USGBC LEED Gold certification.
