The 136th Whitman College Commencement

The stage is up and it’s almost time to celebrate the Class of 2022! The 136th Commencement will take place at 11 a.m. on Sunday, May 22. In addition to remarks from President Murray and Board Chair Joe Davis, the event will feature speeches from the Senior Class Speaker Fadia Chehadeh and the student-nominated Commencement Speaker, Trustee Emeritus Steve Hammond.

 

 

Please join in the celebration of them by attending the ceremony on the south lawn of Memorial Building or watching the livestream on the Commencement webpage.

Summer Building Access

Beginning Monday, the Whitman campus will transition to summer building access and schedules. All campus buildings with the exception of Reid and Penrose Library will return to being swipe-access-only during their business hours.

 

To accommodate summer working hours, administrative buildings will be open by swipe access from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Academic buildings will be open by swipe access Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

Other buildings will be open as follows:

Bratton Tennis Courts (closed May 23 until June 1): Monday–Friday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

BFFC (closed May 23 until June 6): Monday–Thursday 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4 to 6 p.m.; Friday 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 3 to 6 p.m.

Sherwood (closed May 23 until June 1): main doors Monday–Friday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; lower ramp door Monday–Thursday 7 to 9 a.m., 12 to 1 p.m., 5 to 7 p.m.; Friday, 12 to 1 p.m., 5 to 7 p.m. 

Reid Campus Center: Monday–Friday 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Reid Post Office: Monday–Friday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Whitman Bookstore: Monday–Friday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

OP Rental Shop: Monday, Wednesday and Friday 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Tuesday and Thursday 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2 to 4 p.m.

Penrose Library: Monday–Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Glover Alston Center: daily 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Whitman Today Goes Weekly

Beginning next Monday, May 23, Whitman Today will move to a weekly format for the summer, published on the first business day of each week. Please plan your submissions accordingly, sending them to whitmantoday@whitman.edu by noon on Thursday for the following week's edition.

 

Reminder: The 50th Reunion Class is Here Now

Members of the class of 1972 are on campus for their 50th reunion this week. Say hello, offer directions if they look lost and please avoid parking in the driveway of Baker Center through Sunday. Call the Alumni Relations office at 509-527-5167 if you have any questions.

COVID-19 Cases on Campus

In accordance with Washington state Labor & Industries employer requirements, we are notifying the campus community that in the past 24 hours, two people with Whitman access were confirmed positive for COVID-19. These people are now in isolation in accordance with our campus and CDC guidelines. 

 

The risk of viral spread is lower for people who are properly masked and following social gathering restrictions. Please continue to follow all our campus COVID-19 protocols to help prevent transmission.

 

If you have any symptoms that may be COVID-19 or know that you may have been exposed to coronavirus, please be tested. Employees should email Human Resources (hr@whitman.edu) to schedule a test. Students can be tested at the back door of Welty from 9:30 a.m.–11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.–4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and home test kits are available on the weekend from Residence Life staff or Security (509-527-5777).
