Dialogue & Dignity Series: Ethan Katz

The Dialogue & Dignity Series continues next week with Ethan Katz, Associate Professor of History and Jewish Studies at the University of California, Berkeley. His research interests include modern Jewish history, religion and secularism in the modern world, the history of citizenship, and Jewish-Muslim relations, especially in France and North Africa. He has taught courses on late modern Europe, the Mediterranean, Jews and Muslims, religion in the modern world, modern France and its empire, and historical methodologies.
Monday, April 1:

|
Whitman College will host “OnionFest” on Saturday, March 30 and Sunday, March 31 on campus and at the Whitman athletic fields. This annual ultimate frisbee event attracts teams from around the Pacific Northwest for some friendly competition.

“Reckoning With the US Empire” Lecture Monday
|
The History Department presents a guest lecture by Moon-Ho Jung, Professor of History and Chair of Labor Studies at the University of Washington, on Monday, April 1 at 5 p.m. in Brattain Auditorium. Through examples from his book, “Menace to empire: Anticolonial Solidarities and the Transpacific Origins of the US Security State,” Jung will discuss how we might reckon with empire to generate radical interpretations of US history and society. Community Invited to Participate in Artistic Tribute to Kyle Martz ’07
|
Friends of Whitman alum and former staff member Kyle Martz '07 invite the Whitman community to participate in either of two painting workshops, on Friday, March 29 from 4–7 p.m. in the Fouts Center for Visual Arts on campus or on Saturday, March 30 from 1–4 p.m. at Art Escape in downtown Walla Walla. Participants may contribute to an art installation on campus, titled “All the Rare Birds,” commissioned from local multi-media artist Daniel Forbes ’93 to honor the memory of Martz and other rare birds that come into and out of our lives. Instructions and refreshments will be provided. Please RSVP in advance. (Flyer attached.)

Volunteer for Spring Into Whitman Days

April is an important month in the admissions cycle, with campus visits taking place every week Monday through Saturday. The Office of Admission is looking for volunteers for the two Spring Into Whitman days for admitted students taking place on Saturday, April 6 and Saturday, April 13. Please sign up in advance!
