Celebrating 2023 Faculty Promotions
|
Each year, Whitman College recognizes exemplary efforts of members of the faculty with promotions, tenure-track advancement and endowed positions.
“I am pleased to announce that ten faculty members received well-deserved promotions this year,” says Alzada Tipton, Provost and Dean of the Faculty. “Whitman College is proud of their efforts and dedication to their fields of study and to our students.”
The new titles are in effect as of the start of the 2023–2024 academic year.

Men’s Soccer Team Enjoys Decisive Win on Sunday
|
Whitman’s men’s soccer team won with a score of 7–0 against Lewis & Clark College on Sunday. They scored the most goals and won with the largest margin of victory since 2017. The women’s team also won their match against Lewis & Clark College on Sunday. Both men’s and women’s soccer teams play at home this weekend. Go Blues!

Correction: Campus Offices Close Early Friday

In order to ensure that Whitman staff can participate in our celebration of the campaign launch, campus offices will close early on Friday, Oct. 13 at 3:30 p.m. Please join us for a community celebration on Ankeny Field. The celebration is free and open to the public.

Title IX Training Opportunity Today
|
By federal law, school employees (except for confidential resources) are Mandatory Reporters for sex/gender discrimination and sexual misconduct. Staff and faculty are encouraged to attend one of two upcoming Title IX Training sessions, to learn about their critical obligations as Mandatory Reporters.

Loving Kindness Meditation Tonight
|
The Zen Meditation Club and the Office of Religious and Spiritual Life invite you to a special Loving Kindness Meditation, tonight at 5 p.m. in the All Faiths Room. This meditation aims to foster peace and compassion amidst world crisis. Loving Kindness is a practice that cultivates goodwill toward oneself and others, and will last 20–30 minutes. Following the meditation, participants are welcome to share tea and cookies.

Staff Advisory Council Open Office Hours Tomorrow
|
The Staff Advisory Council is holding drop-in hours throughout the Fall semester for all staff to learn about the work in progress, share feedback and get to know staff representatives. All are welcome! The next open office hours will be hosted by Greg Lecki on Friday, Oct. 13 from Noon–1 p.m. in Memorial Building, Room 208.

Solar Eclipse Viewing on Saturday
|
This weekend, an annular solar eclipse will be observable in the United States. Join the Astronomy Department on Saturday, Oct. 14 from 8:10–10:40 a.m. outside of the Hall of Science (Ankeny field side) to view this exciting event using a solar telescope (weather permitting). In our location at Whitman, the sun will be 70–80% covered by the moon, with maximum coverage at approximately 9:20 a.m.

Chats with Grads Event Monday
|
Global Studies invites you to chat with Whitman alum Anna Taft ’02 in a Chats with Grads event on Monday, Oct. 16 at 4 p.m. in Olin 192. Learn about her path to Founding Director of the Tandana Foundation, an organization working in Ecuador and Mali to support the achievement of community goals and address global inequalities through caring intercultural relationships that embody mutual respect and responsibility. Cookies will be provided.
