A Sweet Walla Walla Welcome

Six Walla Walla Sweet Onions in a divided shipping box, with yellow and white postcards containing fun facts about onions.

We are eager to welcome our incoming Class of 2027 and give them a taste of what life is like in our community. Continuing a decades-long tradition, this week every new Whittie will receive a box of Walla Walla Sweet Onions.

A big shout out to the crew at our own Mailing Services Office who were responsible to package and mail 430 boxes (2,610 onions) to incoming students.

Fun Fact:
Walla Walla Sweet Onions—the official state vegetable of Washington since 2007—were cultivated from an Italian sweet onion that a French soldier brought here in the late 1800s.
