Ice is Nice

slideshow of photos from the Outdoor Program ice climbing trip

Six students went ice climbing with Assistant Director of the Outdoor Program (OP) Stuart Chapin on Wednesday, Jan. 12. Ice climbing is an activity that can only be offered when the conditions are just right. The group was lucky to catch some great ice conditions last week and spent the day learning how to use various ice tools and crampons to ascend these icy walls in the Umatilla National Forest.

The next ice climbing trip is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 28 if the weather cooperates to keep things frozen. Find more details and register for that trip and other upcoming OP opportunities for all skill levels on Compass (whit.mn/compass).

New Spectator Policy for Whitman Blues

In an effort to maintain the health and safety of spectators and staff from the increased spread of the Coronavirus, Whitman Athletics has updated its spectator policy for indoor events. This change is effective immediately. Please read the full policy before attending Whitman Athletics events to ensure you arrive prepared to comply with the new requirements.

COVID-19 Cases on Campus

Positive COVID-19 cases in our campus community are noted in Whitman Today in compliance with state regulations. Due to office closures for today's Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday, the data in our COVID-19 Dashboard will be updated tomorrow.

In accordance with Washington state Labor & Industries employer requirements, we are notifying the campus community that over the weekend, six people with Whitman access were confirmed positive for COVID-19. These people are now in isolation in accordance with our campus guidelines. Though the likelihood of transmission is low due to our campus COVID-19 protocols, it is possible that others may have been exposed to COVID-19. There is nothing you need to do at this time aside from following our campus COVID-19 protocols. Anyone identified through the contact tracing process as a close contact (within 6 ft. for at least 15 minutes over 24 hours) will be personally notified.
