Convocation 2021

Whitman College's annual Convocation ceremony brings together everyone on campus to mark the beginning of the next academic school year and to welcome new students into our community.

 

Students, staff, and faculty are invited to attend Convocation on Monday, Aug. 29 at 4 p.m. in Cordiner Hall as we kick off the 2022-2023 academic year. 

 

Associate Professor of Computer Science Janet Davis will deliver this year's Convocation address, "Will AI Write Your Thesis?"

Printing Update

Introducing Wēpa Print Stations

Wēpa is a new campus printing solution that allows students and employees to upload documents to the cloud using any internet-capable device during regular building hours and print it at any available print station.

 

You can find printing stations at:

  • Penrose Library - 3 kiosks, 1 desktop
  • Olin Hall - 1 kiosk
  • Hall of Science - 1 kiosk
  • Maxey Hall - 1 kiosk
  • Hall of Music - 1 kiosk
  • Reid Campus Center - 1 kiosk, 1 desktop

Student Job Fair Today

Starting at noon, campus employers will set up tables outside Maxey Hall for the annual Student Job Fair. This is a great chance to connect directly with the Whitman community as you look for jobs on campus. Students should note that before you start working, you must complete authorization paperwork by visiting Human Resources. You can stop by their table at the job fair. 

 

Student Activities Fair Monday

Are you looking for ways to get involved on campus? Come by the the Student Activities Fair on the Cordiner Hall side lawn, Monday, Aug. 29 from 9 a.m. to noon. Check out student clubs and organizations, connect with friends and enjoy some free food!

 

Canopy Provides Access to Employee Mental Health Care

Whitman's Employee Assistance Program includes access to mental health care for Whitman employees and their dependents through Canopy. Confidential mental health support is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You can call, text or visit their website for more information.

Daily COVID-19 Update

In accordance with Washington state Labor & Industries employer requirements, we are notifying the campus community that since yesterday, one person with Whitman access was confirmed positive for COVID-19. 

 

Please continue to follow all our campus COVID-19 protocols to help prevent transmission. Masks are required during the first couple weeks of classes. 

 

If you have any symptoms that may be COVID-19 or know that you may have been exposed to coronavirus, please be tested. Rapid test kits are available 7:30-11:30 a.m. and 1:30-4:30 p.m., at the Welty Student Health Center.

The deadline for submissions is noon for the following day's newsletter, though submissions may be held for a later date according to space and editorial needs.
