The Dialogue & Dignity Series continues next week with Omer Bartov, Ph.D., the Samuel Pisar Professor of Holocaust and Genocide Studies at Brown University.

Born in Israel and educated at Tel Aviv University and St. Antony’s College, Oxford, Bartov’s early research concerned the Nazi indoctrination of the Wehrmacht and the crimes it committed in World War II. He has published several books, including “Erased: Vanishing Traces of Jewish Galicia in Present-Day Ukraine” and “Anatomy of a Genocide: The Life and Death of a Town Called Buczacz,” winner of the National Jewish Book Award. He has also edited many volumes, including “Israel-Palestine: Lands and Peoples.”

Eunice Blavascunas Awarded ACLS Summer Fellowship in Bulgaria
|
Associate Professor of Anthropology and Environmental Studies and Chair of the Anthropology Department Eunice Blavascunas was awarded a place in the 2024 Summer Institute for the Study of East Central and Southeastern Europe by the American Council of Learned Sciences (ACLS). Blavascunas will spend the two-week residency writing about a research project, “Imaginaries of the Future,” at the American University in Bulgaria, located in Blagoevgrad.

Staff Coffee Break on Wednesday

The Office of the President will host a Staff Coffee Break on Wednesday, March 20 at 10 a.m. in the Harper Joy Theatre lobby. Enjoy a midmorning break to socialize with your colleagues and learn more about the Department of Theater and Dance.

Residence Hall Open Houses Next Week
|
Next week, the Resident Directors and Community Directors of Stanton Hall, Douglas Hall, College House and Prentiss Hall will hold open houses for first-year students, sophomores and juniors to tour the buildings and see what a typical room looks like. A different building will host each night, from Tuesday, March 26 to Thursday, March 28. See the attached flyer for the schedule of events.

Whitman Swim Team Offers Lessons in April
|
Student-athletes on the Whitman College swim teams will offer swimming lessons in April, with two week-long sessions (April 1–4 and April 8–11) and two time slots to choose from (5–5:30 p.m. or 5:30–6 p.m.). During Spring Break of their junior or senior year, Garrett-Sherwood Scholars at Whitman College have the opportunity to travel to New York City and network with alumni in the area. This year’s trip included an opportunity to see Patrick Page ’85 (center) in “All the Devils are Here” and meet him after the performance.
