Welcome New Staff Members
|
Feature by: The Whitman Staff Advisory Council
|
Did you know? There are more than 300 staff members working on our campus.
All of them are working hard to serve our campus community. In an effort to promote a culture of collaboration, inclusivity, communication and growth, the Staff Advisory Council (SAC) was formed in 2018 to identify staff inequities and work with the President to find resolutions.
SAC is holding drop-in hours throughout the Fall semester—both virtually and in-person—for you to learn about the work we are doing, share feedback, and get to know staff representatives. All are welcome!

- The Welty Health Center will continue to provide free symptomatic testing and masks to students, faculty and staff.
- Students testing positive for COVID-19 should notify the Welty Health Center and their professors. However, the college will not be contact tracing during the fall 2023 semester.
- Faculty and staff may still require masks in their classes or office spaces.
- Whitman College will still provide students with isolation rooms when needed and will follow the isolation recommendations put forth by the CDC.
- Employees who are symptomatic and are awaiting test results should stay home until a negative test result is confirmed. Once the employee receives a negative test result, they may return to work.
- Employees who test positive for COVID-19 should stay home for at least five days. Employees should use sick time for these days for which they will be out of office, unless they are able to perform their jobs remotely.
- Other than registering their sick time in BambooHR, employees do not need to advise their supervisors or the Welty Health Center if they are positive for COVID-19.

We continue to encourage everyone to stay up-to-date on their vaccinations, and as we learn more about the next booster, we will share that information in Whitman Today.

Emergency Preparedness Training on Wednesday
|
As we move forward with our efforts to help ensure our campus community is prepared in the case of an emergency, all Whitman students, faculty and staff are encouraged to attend one of four training sessions on Wednesday, Sept. 13 at 10 a.m., Noon., 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. in Olin Auditorium (each session will be the same). Each hour-long training session will begin with an overview on various emergency scenarios, and then focus more in-depth on how to respond in the case of an active shooter on campus. The sessions will be presented by our consulting firm, EPS, which specializes in emergency management for institutions of higher learning.
